Bulging Disc Treatment FAQ Alternative Healthcare

If you're like most people who suffer with a bulging disc, you realize by now that most of the traditional treatments available to you just don't work that great. This often leads to a lot of frustration, because you end up seeing multiple doctors and no one seems to know what to do for you.

This leads one to look for alternative bulging disc treatments, which is a logical thing to do when you aren't getting anywhere. But are these treatments safe and effective? And if so, where do you start with these alternatives? These are the questions this article will address.

To begin with, let me just say this: yes, alternative treatments can be very helpful when you're dealing with a bulging disc, but there are some very specific things you need to look for if you're going to search out these types of treatments.

The first place I would recommend that you begin is with chiropractic. The reason I say this is because chiropractors are truly the gatekeepers of alternative healthcare, and will easily have access to the rest of the treatments we'll discuss in this article.

However, when looking for the right chiropractor, it's important that you find one who uses a method called Activator. There are thousands of different chiropractic techniques that doctors use, and Activator is just one of them. The reason I recommend this technique in your case is because it has been proven to be the most effective method for alleviating bulging disc pain.

This method is very gentle, and the adjustment itself is delivered using a hand-held instrument. Traditional chiropractic manipulation is not as good for the injured disc because the discs of the spine are weakest when they are placed in a flexed and rotated position. Unfortunately, most chiropractic techniques that are delivered by hand require the practitioner to place the individual in this position for the adjustment.

The activator method removes this position, which allows the practitioner to re-align the spine without harming the injured disc further. A proper alignment of the spine is very important for disc healing because it removes pressure from the injured disc.

Another alternative bulging disc treatment I would recommend is massage therapy. I would look for a practitioner who utilizes a technique called myofascial release, which is a form of deep tissue massage. Muscle spasms are commonly associated with bulging disc pain, and massage can do wonders for relaxing these muscles.

Another treatment that's available to you is called low-level laser (also called cold laser). This is a special type of laser that is applied to the injured area and causes the damaged cells to heal more quickly.

It's really helpful when it comes to pain relief, and usually helps a person heal from a bulging disc much more quickly. Many chiropractic clinics and sports injury clinics are utilizing this type of therapy, so it's becoming more easily accessible.

The final alternative bulging disc treatment I'll mention is decompression therapy. This is a special table that pumps the injured disc and essentially reduces the pressure within the injured disc that is causing it to bulge in the first place.

This treatment can be very expensive, however, and is usually not covered by insurance because it is considered experimental even though it's been approved by the FDA as a viable treatment method for disc injuries.
